These work great on hardwood floors.

Very good on all hardwood, and very good on all carpet. It's the transition between the two that Roomba gets confused with, along with rugs. Tassels on your rugs will be chewed up, unless you go with the most recent model. I've never owned a refurb, but I have 3 Roombas still going strong on all three levels of the house. iRobot has terrific customer service (I had a bad battery once).

bought a refurb on the original model a long time back and its still going strong. only thing i noticed on the refurb when i bought it were some scratches but other than that works perfectly.

The battery will probably die after a few months. I have one now and I bought extra batteries but they both didn't last long. I'm thinking of ordering loose pack batteries and build it on my own.

I have a dog that sheds a lot. If this thing could handle all the hair it would save my life? So..... is it does anybody know if this thing works on pet hair?

i posted this a few days ago. i bought one of these refurbs earlier this year. battery broke in a week but irobot sent a new one quick. robot broke a gear a couple days after the 90 day refurb warranty was up and they told me theyd send a replacement robot at... the same cost as the original refurb.
i got a replacement gear off ebay and fixed it myself. quick battery replacement shows me they are knowingly sending them out with bad batteries.
robot works nice, picks up a lot of hair and loose crud. doesnt replace vacuum but helps.
i like the robot. i do not like irobot.

i love these things. it's great for spaces under the bed and the dresser. hair and fur get caught in its bristles and can be annoying to clean, but all in all a pretty good machine.

How does it do on concrete? I'd like to put one in the garage.

Why haven't these come down in price more? They've been around for several years now, with several makers, yet they haven't dropped much. Everyone says these are just to complement regular vacuuming; I have trouble paying more for this than a decent regular vacuum when it definately doesn't replace it.
