I like everything about my mini DVD camcorder except for the mini DVD part! I bought at the wrong time when tapes were still in the majority and hard drive based ones had small hard drives and a lot of problems. It would have been nice to get a hybrid one like this back then so I had the option to use flash drives but they were not around then.
When all is said and done, just get a flash based one. They are smaller, lighter, and you can store more on flash cards than on a mini DVD.

#2, What's the best HD camcorder, for a reasonable price, that records to flash memory?

Sony camcorders are great. Good color accuracy and great quality. can't say the same about their cameras. The nice thing about this one is that it can do both Flash memory and mini DVD. mini DVD kinda sucks because it can only go for an hour max. flash memory is generally the best, but this particular one makes you use Sony's crappy Memory Stick, rather than SD.
