This is a great deal! WHS makes doing "bare metal" reinstalls 100x easier than Norton Ghost - never lose a hard drive contents again - so friendly even the family can use it for the media serving (place all your music, videos, etc. on one server.

With the pesky bug worked out in the file system, this is THE way to go for backups and serving, forget a NAS, do it.

Wow ... nice price. Too bad I just bought a RAID NAS box or I would be on this for sure.

What's the pesky bug you are referring to?

Pesky bug reference found - MS fixed WHS in July.
    Never mind.

that looks like a really good price. home server looked compelling from what I saw of it briefly in vegas last year. Still, i really like my synology nas box (cs406).

nice surprise from synology: they constantly update their firmware to add functionality, and make these updates available for older models as well.

This thing is great for the family who wants to an easy way to store/share digital media among multiple computers and allow remote access from the internet to files. I've got one setup with 2 hard drives for redundancy and running whiist to serve up photo gallery web pages for friends and family. $300 is a deal.

Geeky me - my home brew WHS has 7 drives, 4.5TB running an old eMachines celeron 2GHz and 1G Ram. Would like another to play around on

The only thing good about this is the look. You can buy a icydock 5 drive internal enclosure with an old computer and make it your very own server.

Is a WHS a functional PC?

Can you load and run programs?

I have a dedicated server running multiple jobs with 8 hard drives in RAID 5 and a Virtual machine of windows home server running on it. To me this saves me power. I can run a dedicated server for AD/Exchange/etc. and have a home server for backups and internet/photos in a virtual image all on the same box and it's fully redundant. I like home server and I've heard good these about these HPs. This is a steal. If I could justify it I'd buy one. Even the EX475 has been discounted. I'm thinking the new version is about to come out.

I have a friend whose small shop using 3-4 computers wanted a NAS device just to use for file storage that all the computers could access. Would this be better off than purchasing a similar priced NAS device?

Appears to be dead. No longer shows up as an "add to cart" item.

BEN, keep these HP deals coming. I'm very hopeful that you'll be able to work an HP Pavilion Slimline deal for Black Friday.

    Thanks for the savings!
