#1, I'm not so sure that's a true limit on the enclosure.

this is PoS. I ordered one, the casing is actually smaller than the drive itself. No way to fit the drive to this darn thing. I just wasted my $7. Be aware.

This looks exactly like the one I've been using for many years (except mine is silver). The size is great, because it is barely larger than the drive, so it fits the drive like a glove. I've used it with lots of drives. One advantage of this design vs the slide-in sleeve design, especially if you occasionally work with old laptop drives, is that it can fit the older thicker drives if you leave the cover off. With the slide-in enclosures, you are SOL if you have an older thicker laptop drive that you need to access.
Keep in mind that this is (most likely) for PATA laptop drives (at least mine is), and not the SATA laptop drives that come in new laptops these days.

PS: I'm tempted to buy another since people are always borrowing mine to get data off old laptop drives and such. This is about what I paid many years ago, and it has been a true bargain, and has never had a problem.
I used mine again just this past weekend to help resolve some issues on a friend's old laptop.

Or just get a USB-IDE converter that works on PATA, SATA, laptop and 3.5in hard drives as well as DVD burners, etc.

I replaced my laptop drive with a larger drive. The yanked smaller drive I put in this enclosure. Very useful as a big file transfer device.
