Domain Registration forGoDaddy.com has .COM domain registration on sale for $1.19 for the first year (regularly $10) with coupon code 99DOMAIN. They have good prices from a leading reputable registrar. If you've seen some of the other cheaper registrars, take note, as with many of them you don't actually own the domain you buy!

Godaddy is the king of all domain management sites. I highly recommend them as there is no better place for support

WOW, this is a deal. Get your domain name with godaddy and then host it with google. they offer free hosting.

I have hosted my domain name for 4 years with them without issue. They have a great Webmail interface and their customer service is great. Their website is one big advertisement though, and you will get a sense that they are constantly trying to push you to buy more options. They do not spam your account though; it's only when you are on their site.

I disagree w/ #1 completely.
Godaddy's interface and usability is ad-filled garbage.
Their support is hit and miss. Sometimes great, often crap.
Regardless, I don't pick a registrar or host for their "support" - I pick them for reliability, usability, speed and security so I don't have to ever even bother contacting their support. To that end, I recommend either namecheap.com or domaincontender.com for the best bang from value registrars, and calicohosting.com for the same from a host. Godaddy is a bottom feeder. They're popular, but so was MC Hammer.

filled with garbage and ads.

Do any of these sites actually pass FULL ownership of the domain to you?

#6 If have three sites registered with them and have full ownership. So, no problems there.

GoDaddy is a good "middleman" to transfer your domains to every once in awhile. I just go back and forth between registrars; best thing about godaddy is if you transfer 5+ domains back, you get free privacy crap for the duration of the time left on each domain. So, shop around, get cheap rates, transfer around every now and then to get good deals. Stay away from 1and1! The prices are deceiving but when they charge you every year even if you have already pre-paid extra years on your domain with another provider - they call them maintenance fees. Dreamhost is nice because of free privacy, but $9.95/domain is a bit pricey.

Please note that GoDaddy sells these domains cheap as lost leader. The absolute cheapest you can register a domain is $7.55 for a .com, .net, etc... This is why many companies charge $9.95 or a year, because then after credit card fees, etc. you come close to breaking even.

I personally use www.MadRooster.com The domains are 100% in your name, and they are an enom reseller, so if they do ever happen to go out of business, you can contact Enom directly to get control of your domain. Smile

How do you know if you have full ownership or not? I have a whole bunch of domains with godaddy, but have heard good and bad stories about them. here's a bad one that happened recently (not totally their fault, but shows they have crappy security or tech folks):

(I tried to put in the original link, but ben changes b-log-spot with bacon and tiny-url with bacon). C'mon man!

Nice price drop from an already decently-priced registrar. The hard part is actually getting the .com you want.

I only use Go Daddy to register my domains...not sure how their actual web hosting is. But just getting my domain names registered/locked is no problem.

Also at this price why don't you get a domain such as 'www.(friends name)iscanadian bacon.com' ... will make a nice Christmas gift for them.

1and1 is a better deal.

They had their problems in the early days, but for the last 3 years it's been perfect.

If you email tech support they usually reply the same day with real answers.

Very happy with 1and1 and the prices can't be beat.
