Out of stock, but can still order. Screw you Kmart and Sears.

Have had this one for about 2 months. Really good picture (if you have 1080p TV) and fairly small for a BluRay. About average for 'start-up' lag, and does play all formats of recorded disks very well (+R, -R).
Downsides:
1) no Slo-Motion. Has 'Pause', but no slo-mo.
2) Very awkward remote control: crowded buttons, counter-intuitive commands.
Tough to beat at this price, perhaps might choose the Panasonic if it comes down to this level.

Sears had the Panasonic for about 20 minutes on Sunday for $150, unfortunately my local store would not honor the web price.

Still upconverting to 1080P on my $40 Philips through HDMI.

Still enjoy not giving Sony any of my money after the rootkit fiasco and then keeping the BluRay prices artificially high after they killed HD DVD.

I hold a grudge.

Every Sony device I've ever owned that had a motor died within weeks of the warranty expiring.

It's almost as if, you know, they were either wildly incompetent or else built a little planned obsolescence into their products.

#4= Sony own the blu-ray so no matter any brand blu-ray player you buy in the future- part of your $$ will go to Sony, Otherwise you can go for HD player..

Sad, but true #9. It's too bad Sony won the format war. We're stuck with them for a while.

I ordered this at 10:07 and it was out of stock, but the coupon still worked.

I purchased a magnavox bluray player and it seems to have a few glitches. I'm going to return it once I receive this bad boy.

I am guessing all of the first generation blu-ray players will be slow. Unfortunately I cannot wait for the second generation. I want to take advantage of my 1080p now!

Anyone familiar with how this model compares with the BDP-BX1 by Sony? Costco has that model on sale this weekend for $189 shipped (+tax), but at least it comes with the great Costco feature of being able to dump it back on them for a full refund when it decides to break down.

I agree with #4. People should be such fools to give their money to Sony when Philips has the interim answer to force Sony to lower their blu-ray player's price. This just like gasoline. Don't buy and the prices plummet.

Does anyone know if this will play hd content copied to a regular DVD. I forgot what it is called, but they have a name for this type of disc.
