Got one a while back and it works great. Add a small surge protector and you're good to go. Smile

Definitely get a surge protector. Had some surge problems with my old inverter.

I just bought a Hyundai Veracruz and it has a built in 115-volt outlet. It comes in very handy. I could never understand why automakers didn't make these standard in cars.

$15 seems a good deal. I have one of 85W inverter from Walmart, it works great and is very handy on the run.

what happens if you plug in a device that requires more then 120w?

Be careful when you used in your car. When I used a similar unit, the car fuse burnt out and had to go to fix it at the dealer. Make sure you know the limitation of the voltage of the cigarette lighter.

Most of these have a built in fuse to handle power surges, etc. Why would you need a surge protector?

I have one of these. It is not 120W. It is not close to 120W. It just barely had enough output to heat a 40W soldering iron.

It is an honest 30W.

I like this thing, it works good enough to charge my laptop, what are you soldering in your car #11?

You gotta be careful with these because of the way they're shaped versus the way that the 12V outlet is placed in your car. Sometimes it's better going with one that has a wired plug so that you have some flexibility with placement.

i use one of these regularly to power my laptop or portable dvd player on long trips.. but anytime Ive tried hooking a small surge protector to it, Ive blown the fuse.

#10.. he meant add surge protector on it, to try and get extra plugs.. but this wasnt meant to push multiple devices.

though you can get inverters for half the price, I've found that they're not nearly rated high enough to handle even a cell phone charger. 120 watts is great.

what fuse did you blow that required the dealer to fix?
