Is anyone using these things?

If it supported IDE drives I certainly would be.

I love mine it makes swapping so easy, I have a 1tb in there right now hooked up via esata, it flies

via esata? Isn't this one usb only?

This one is USB only. I bought the eSATA + USB one a couple days ago from newegg for $19 AR.

The esata makes quite a difference, I would hold out for another deal for the esata version if you don't have one yet.

These work great. You can also slam a 2.5" SATA drive in them too.

#2 - The tiny pins on an IDE drive would never work well with this type of design.

GOD DAMMIT I HATE WHEN YOU SLAM IT!

Yeah, these look sketchy to me, don't they make enclosures for a reason?

you just leave the hard drive naked like that?

These look handy, but I would primarily want to use them to transport large files...not sure that I'm comfortable tossing a couple of naked drives in a bag and carrying them around like that. For those who are using it, have you had any issues with your drives getting damaged?

I know this one is USB only, but in reading some of the comments, I have some questions.....

Is esata a different cable? Do you need something special on your pc to connect it to?

This is a great item, but you should really get the newer model with e-SATA.

#12: e-SATA is a different cable. you attach the controller card to a sata slot on the motherboard and then you connect this device to the controller card.

e it's as if the external HDD was directly connected to the motherboard and become much much faster than plain usb.

These things are worth their weight in gold if you work on computers.

I agree with #14, this would be very handy to have when you work on computers. It will keep your workspace cleaner too.
