3-Pack of 6 Ft HDMI M-M CablesYesBuy.net has the 3 Pack 6ft (2m) Gold-plated Male to Male HDMI Cable for $10 with free shipping. A good generic cable for those looking to save money over the "monster" variety, while maintaining the buzz of "Gold Plated Connectors".

What's the difference between these and the certified 1.3 cables?
#5   cablephil2001 - Posted 12:04 pm PST 12/2/08 (740 Posts)
#4: I have read that a standard cable do up to 1080i, not 1080P. Don't know if this is true, but cheap cables can distort the signal on a long (9ft or more) run. V1.3 cables don't, and also transmit sound thru HDMI better. These cables (the 3 pack) are cheap cables. You get what you pay for.

most folks have their players pretty close to their lcd/plasma so this should work for most of those folks. I will only get better cables if I had to go into a wall and up to a flat panel. But I have seen Monster branded cables go for cheap on ebay. I picked up a 16ft hdmi to dvi Monster Cable on ebay for 20 shipped.

Digital signals don't get "distorted", dumbasses. You're the kind of suckers that Monster is in business for.

Going to give them a try.

Actually, even digital signal CAN get degraded over long distances. Read this FAQ here:
http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/hdmi-cables.htm

For all practical purposes though, according to CNET, you won't notices any thing for cables shorter than 60-70ft.

That being said, just get ones that are v1.3 compliant, in case you ever get high end AVRs.

Although the signals dont get distorted you can definitely get interference in the line...

#9 and #11, Digital signals do get distorted when running at high speeds, like in an hdmi cable. Usually it's not enough to change a 1 to a 0, or vice versa, so it doesn't matter. But if the cable is crappy enough, you could get distortions bad enough to flip a bit. When that happens, your picture can get messed up really badly. I don't know if these cables are good enough to avoid that or not, but I'd stick with V1.3 cables. Not from Monster though, as they can cost $50 each if you're not careful. You can find a V1.3 cable for $10 by itself.

Well, there has to be a reason for making the changes moving from 1.0 to 3 Speed is one of them. Kinda like USB 1.0 to 0 For example, you need better performance when transferring a 1080P signal than a 480P signal. Distance is also a variable. The 0's and 1's hand writing can get fuzzy especially when there is some interference.

I like how these cables are still $80 each at Worst Buy. Don't forget the screen cleaner too for another $15.

My friend and I tested his "Better Cable" HDMI with generic HDMI on a Blu-ray movie. For all intents and purposes, we could not tell the difference in picture quality. For sound quality, we were able to notice a slight difference in one of the louder scenes, but it was very, very slight.

Overall, the average consumer will not notice a difference at all.

#11, the correct term is "bada bing, bada boom", my friend.
Also, someone (saw it on CNET, maybe? not sure) tested a monster-branded cable against a cable made from a wire coat hanger and the quality was indiscernible to viewers in a double-blind test. Not sure what that proves, but it's certainly something.
