Does anyone have any experience with these? There are so many brands anymore.

Magellon is better than Garmin in my opinion. I was lokking at this one for the last few weeks so I can get a couple for my sons. My budy has this one and I was really impressed. Storing points of interest was wonderful and it says street names.

I have a 4040 that I've been happy with - except for occasional map issues (incorrect directions or areas that have been there a very long time but are not in the map software). Not sure the value of voice commands and I actually end up muting the text-to-speach because it gets very annoying. New map is finally available for $80. If this has the new maps, I would say it's a good worthwhile device.

The 2009 map is actually about $60 at Amazon.com. I bought the Magellan 4250 Refurbished at Amazon.com for $119.99 with the 2007 map and 6 millions POIs, the brand new one is sold at $209.99. Compare to the 4050, the 4250 is thinner, 0.7". For the sound volume, the 4050 is louder. Since the case of the 4050 is thicker, the speaker is bigger than the one of the 4250. The voice command is just a gadget, but it actually works. You need to wait for the GPS to finish talking before you can talk back. Beside the speaker, a different mount and a slight menu layout change, the 4050 and 4250 are exactly the same GPS.

4 does not know what he is talking about. This unit works well. The only time a GPS freezes is if there are too many GPS units being used at the same time. If that happens, the satellite overloads much like a server for a website and then the satellite has the potential to crash to earth. That is why buying a Magellan or other lesser know brand is smarter. The TomTom and Garmin satellites will overload on Christmas day or shortly thereafter when everyone that gets one for Christmas turns their new ones on. The excessive GPS beams will cause the Garmin and TomTom satellites to crash and fall out of orbit.
Also, certain GPS need special relay overbolts that will allow them to work on bridges or other things that use E-Z Pass tool booth payer things.
This way you could end up getting lost in tunnel or on a bridge just for using the wrong GPS.
