Why convert to MP3 or CD??? The sound quality from a good turntable and LP recordings beats the h_ll out of mp3s or cds. It sounds like you are there; you can even hear the musicians breathing. You were victmized by the mass marketing. Nothing beats an LP for quality and presence, etc. I'll accept the hisses and scratches for the better quality. My eighth post this week, I think.

#4 I'm sure the artist wanted the hissess and pops in their music. Vinyl was the best at the time. just like older recording on 8-track, 4-track, wire or wax were the best available. At least converting to mp3 or cd the music can last beyond the original recording format.

I agree with #4. The sound is superior on a decent turntable. I'll take the hisses and pops any day.
That said, converting to cd or mp3 would certainly offer some portability. Especially if you hate repurchasing your music.

Even Bob Dylan commented on the loss of sound when his latest album was converted to cd. This sound would not have been lost on vinyl. It is a fact that vinyl is able to produce a much better range than cd, or mp3. We took a step backwards without knowing it when we adopted the cd.

Well, if enough people really cared about absolute fidelity, we could have digital sampling that would sound better than vinyl. Higher sampling rates, and larger storage files could solve this. Instead of crying on Ben's Bargains, you should demand this of the recording industry.
Oh, I forgot, they really don't give a shit about you, the artists or the music...

These are soo freaking expensive, I'm sure you get what you pay for, but come on, where is the $50 USB version, maybe without the autoconvert, I'm sure that there is some opensource encoder that would work better anyway.

If you have a turntable and some other basic audio components, it's not that hard to set something up to convert you LPs to MP3. You basically just need an audio capture or recording software as well as some MP3 ripping software on your PC. Lots of "how to" stuff on-line... one example http://www.br0wn.co.uk/vinyltocd.htm
