Question for anybody that owns this...
Will this thing make the ipod not break the glass so easily?

At #2, not really, but a case is still better than nothing at all. I prefer the silicon cases b/c they are softer and easier on the ipod. I had a clear plastic one and it was actually scratching my ipod from the inside.

... personally I've never been able to convince myself to get any iPod... (and therefore I've never bothered with a case for one) but I'm stingy and perfectly content with boring plain old-school mp3 players.

I've tried the clear cases before and it just seems too bulky, I ended up paying for a guy to put this protective film on mine and it completely covered everything except the buttons and holes. So far so good and it's not as big with the case. Just my two cents.

That said, I got a soft cover, which included a clear plastic display cover, for mine from HHI and it is still holding up after almost two years.

#11 + #15 - same deal. I was skeptical but got mine free via Key Bank deal a while back. I certainly wouldn't pay $200 for it - but it is very, very nice for what it does. The wifi on it is really worth it. I can now wardrive around my hood and get maps/etc from my car outside coffee shops. Once you get used to the interface, you see just how bad the interfaces are on most phones and mp3 players.
I really like the interface - it's what should be on all handheld devices - but don't think it's quite the panacea. It will still occasionally crash or act weird (mostly the browser). iTunes still screws up the time when syncing and links your device to their software stack (which I don't like iTunes much). There is a lack of really high-quality apps - most are useless or pretty rough interface wise but there are some great ones (pandora).
Still, it'll do exactly what it should - raise the bar on interface expectations for people like blackberry and phone kin. I've stayed away from fancier phones just because they're more effort than they're worth.
I do still have my old iRiver for running - and its great for that.
