just fyi, I have heard some concerns about the sound chip being used in classic ipods (cirrus) is not as good as the one in previous models (wolfson). But since it is highly subjective, everyone has their own opinion...

Sorry for dbl post, just wanted to add to my #2 post above that there many folks who actually like the cirrus chip sound, and it supposedly does better with power savings as well. Do your research is all i m suggesting, especially if u r upgrading from a gen1 thru gen5.5 to a classic

I think ipod is a gimmick. They lock they songs you already paid for and won't let you transfer into other devices. They are not the first to come out with the idea, but were better at advertising.

good price but if u paid for the song, u should be able to do whatever u want with them other then sharing.

Itunes has unlocked songs now as well (they have for some time now). Just buy the songs for cheaper and DRM free at Amazon and you don't need to worry about it anyhow.

I have had Ipods with both sound chips, and they are very different. The new chip is much clearer and has better separation, but a lot of people like the warmer sound that the old one had. Personally, I like the new one just fine but it does take a little getting used to.

Audiphiles who talk about sound being "warmer" are so totally full of shit.

Maybe if you want "warm" sound from your ipod you should strap a vacuum tube to the back of it... haha.

To me, both the old and the new sound chips sounded the same.
