I woke up this past Sunday, turned on my computer, and was greeted with "invalid boot disk". My few-months-old Seagate 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB SATA drive was no longer being recognized by my PC. No warning, no nothing, just a dead drive. It's the dreaded firmware SD15 bug where the drive's firmware corrupts and leaves the drive inaccessible. I had recently backed up My Documents and email and a few other things, but still lost some stuff that is irreplaceable. It sucks @$$, but the drive is fully recoverable if I want to spend the $$.

#2 Except it will cost you more than ten times the cost of the hard drive to get the data replaced...

I bought one 11 months ago and it just crashed yesterday. It was always noisy and sounded a lot like a blender from the start. I never had any problems with Seagate before this but I would avoid this 500gb '2nd generation' crap.

#3, I realize that. Drive replacement will be free since it is still under warranty.
#4, my drive was never loud. It died a silent death.

#6, thanks for the info. That sounds like the exact repair that I need. Was your drive a Seagate 7200.11?

Check with www.resellerratings.com GoHarDrive shows only one review, and it's not a good one.
Looks like a good deal price-wise. but I wouldn't trust this site...

I've never seen anything definitive on them being the same outfit, but they use the same mailing list (people on EagleBit's old mail list started getting mail from goharddrive), and I do see references to the EagleBit eBay store having you write checks out to goHardDrive.com, so I think we can safely say they are effectively the same vendor.
