Dpreview gave this camera a "Highly Recommended" rating 2 years ago. Only 6 megapixels, but it uses them well. Having its image stabilization inside the camera will bring the price of lenses down. I've never dealt with OneCall, but gets good reviews on resellerratings. Still, not sure that this is such a great deal for a refurbished camera with no lens.

I have this with Pentax 50mm, Sigma 17-70mm, and Tamron 70-300mm. When coupled with a good lens such as 50mm f/1.4, this is a great buy. Overall good performer and good value. But, its AF (auto focus) is a bit slow. Other than that, I don't really have any complaints.

If I were looking for a DSLR, however, I'd buy a Sony A200 + 17-70mm kit lens, and maybe 70-300mm too, if I need range.

One thing to note (if you've never had a dslr), you will probably end up spending more money on lens/flash/etc. So if you know when to stop buying and know excatly what you want to get out of dslr purchase, it's a good idea to go with Pentax/Sony.

However, if you are not sure, I'd buy a Canon XS (or Nikon D40) with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. This way, a few years later, when you upgrade your body to pro level, you will be able to use all the lens you purchased with the new body.

How do they refurbish a camera? Just clean it and check it out?

A refurb doesn't have a real warranty anyways, so you might want to look at a used K10D on fleabay. They go for a little more than this but have a *lot* more features.

That said, 6MPix will do a lot better at low light photography than a 10MPix sensor...

#4 - I believe that is the case. I think if it's factory refurbed they replace scratched bits. I have a factory refurbed Nikon lens, and it looks and behaves perfectly. Cant differentiate it from a new one.

This is not that bad a body, and the price is just OK. Get good glass though.

I've learnt to mistrust DPReview since they were bought by Amazon tho. Check out their "not so great" comments on the Oly SP500UZ at every test, but a "recommended" overall rating... hmm...
