SSD is not recommended until they are more developed. As of right now, a lot of gigantic-sized hard drives can be found on the cheap, and finding one that hits that sweet spot, like this one, takes a lot of pressure off both your computer and your wallet. I'm picking this one up.

samsungs are ok, i prefer seagates with a 5 year warranty.

I'm with #9 - all my systems have 2 x seagate in raid 1, and while I have had to return drives to them under warranty, their response time has been quick.

I have this exact drive. Scores a 5.9 in vista experience fwiw. Silent compared to the video card fan.

Samsung is my new favorite brand.

3 years is probably enough - I don't think I have really needed a hard drive that lasted 5 years.

Not a bad deal, but at $1 per gig, might as well go for one of the other deals going around for 100 gig HDDs @ $100.

do 32 mb really make a difference?

It's only 10 cents a gig...

I have this drive. Great drive, only thing is that you can force it into SATA-1 mode through jumpers. Samsung documentation says that you have to re-flash the firmware to get it to SATA-1. WTF, dude? If you have a POS chipset like VIA, it wouldn't even recognize your other SATA drives when you have this drive plugged in. So tell me how do I flash the firmware then? Fortunately my motherboard has another controller (Promise) and even though that is SATA-1, it doesn't hang and the drive falls back to SATA-1 like it should.

The RMA procedure is also a little strange. It says to go through who you bought the drive from.

Other than that, fast, silent, and runs quite cool.

I want to get a drive to use with my drobo, would this be a good drive to use?
