HDD prices are falling fast. I got a 500GB HDD for this same price just 2 months ago.

How is Samsung compared to Western Digital and Seagate?

Hum... for $5 more you can get the seagate version:

The Seagate only has 16mb vs 32mb but it does have a 5 year warranty vs 3 years.

#23, I've found my recent Seagate drives to be noisier and slower.

Well, you could get this, or spend $5 more and get the 1TB Hitachi drive. It's not as fast or quiet, and it runs hotter, but that's 33% more capacity for $5 more.

#27, are you talking about this one?

Not too sure about hitachi's but it seems like every manufacturer have problems of their own. I don't trust rebates anymore so that is why I didn't jump on the hitachi deal.

#23, yeah, you're right, I think seagates are abit noiser. I've had both in the past and I would say they are about the same in terms of performance / value, but I just prefer the 5 years over the 3 year warranty.
