Don't forget to factor in the cost of new windows for your vehicle as adding GPS to your car greatly increases the likelihood that you vehicle will get broken into by some low life.

that is true, but the gps holder (esp the navigon one) is very easy to take on/off. it's a nuisance, but i dont think most ppl are using their gps for every single trip, anyway.

The suction-cup kiss on the windshield is what tells the crooks you've got one in your car. Don't use the suction mount, and you should be fine.

I leave the damn thing in the window 24/7. Smash the window and take the damn thing, I don't care.

I have only used the next model up (7100), but the Navigon units perform very well. The free traffic updates are a nice feature as long as you are in an area with a FM station that actually transmits the information, such as large city areas. As far as navigation goes, the unit is very easy to use and the display is quite good.

e-cost has it for $96 right now, after MIR before shipping (about $15) and tax!
And #12, youre using it in NYC, ive had a couple GPS units and NYC is a horrible place for all of them. The line of sight for the GPS through the large buildings is difficult. For major cities with many large buildings, you may have trouble. Tampa is a somewhat big city but not a whole lot of tall buildings, I never had a problem. Not too much problem in downtown DC either. But in NYC, Houston, etc...lots of problems until you get out of downtown; GPS works but it is degraded signal. And if you have fat fingers, before you buy a GPS, do research and find the one with a bigger screen.
