3 bad things, there's a rebate, its only 5400, and its a hitachi.

#2 is blowing smoke. Check around. The Hitachi Travelstar drives are marvelous, with an excellent reputation for reliability, lack of noise, cool running, and speed.

The 5400 vs. 7200 debate is, well, debatable, but the reliability of these drives is not.

I got the 7200 version of this when it was $70 shipped AR from TigerDirect last week. It's the 7th Travelstar I've owned, and they were all great.

To any person who has had a 5400 RPM drive and then upgraded to a 7200RPM drive in the same laptop, as I have, there is no debate. Faster speed and no noticeable battery life drop. You would be a sucker for buying a 5400RPM drive anymore.

Take the 5400RPM drives platter size, divide it by 1.33 and you have the platter size the 7200RPM drive must have to compete if everything else is the same between the drives.

A 5K320 with 160GB per platter compared to a 7200RPM drive with 120GB per platter is a dead heat if everything else is identical but often better technology is used in the 5400RPM drives to compensate some for the lower spindle speed.

No, the 5K320 is no big performer but it isn't a slacker either. There are a s*** load of 120GB (or less) per platter 7200RPM drives that don't perform any better.

WD recently released a 5400RPM 2.5" drive with 250GB per platter that very few 7200RPM 2.5" drives outperform. I think once test review results start coming out that 250GB per platter 5400RPM drive will be only a few spots down from the top of the performance list and not be beat by any tangible margin.

Qualify your RPM remarks by including platter size compared to a 7200RPM or you make yourself out to be an idiot!

With 2.5" hard drives, 7200RPM drives have and still do lag in platter size, there always has been a 5400RPM drive with a larger platter than the largest platter 7200RPM drive.

If you are going to comment on the RPM you had better do your homework and comment on platter size too or you are an idiot.

I like the Travelstar... I have used two with no problems. Good price. But, the rebate kills it for me, as usual with NewEgg deals.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago for an EEE Box PC. That came with 80GB, now it will have 320GB. I figure the higher density will make up for the lower speed.
