but for $17 nobody needs this. it can be bought for $0.01 + shipping (~$5) at amazon marketplace, and even less on ebay.

This would be for a laptop that the soundcard does not work. Tried a soundblaster once before and was not impressed. If you need a new soundcard for a laptop, $17 is a great deal.

The dell desktops we have at work have crappy front speaker jacks. They're over amplified and distort. Plugging in headphones into the back of the computer isn't an option because of distance. I got a USB sound adapter through geeks from an earlier post a while back and it works great. The range of sound is much wider than the onboard sound on the dell.
