This is a good price; I was just in Costco where the 46" was $1299 w/o the Blu-Ray.

This actually seems like a pretty good deal, although it would be even nicer if they sold it without the blu-ray player for $1400.

I got the Sharp Aquous 46 inch last thanksgiving.
The remote control reception at the set is not good. Must have angle correct and frequently up and down pass the channel after you have taken your finger off the button. Worst feature is the volume from the set itself. If you already plan to use a supplemental receiver with speakers, it is fine, but I was very disappointed in the volume from the unit alone.

I saw another TV with 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Is there a point at which r doesn't matter?

i have a hard time looking at sharp when there's sony and samsung.

#14 those are "dynamic contrast" numbers, in other words marketing games. No substitute for seeing one in person.

Subtract $200 for the BlewRay (if you even want/need it) and the TV is still $1400. Not a great price at this point

#14, at this point, any brand name will please most people. If you really care about truly outstanding contrast, buy a plasma set. They get pretty warm, and use more electricity, but the images are much better with richer colors and deaper contrast.

This is the 64u model, which is last year's version. Amazon had the 52" 65u model (this year's) with the same blu-ray player last week for $1488. So... not really a deal here.

The best Aquos models are the 94u Special Edition and the <1" thick XS1 models that are listed at $8k for a 52" and something like $15k for the 65"
