The recommended Video/DVD playback is at 640x480 resolution. Higher resolution playback will result in lower video performance

    LOL.

Yes, I bought this.. was NOT worth it. BAD resolution and very very slow on the video.

This remind me 640x480 VGA era, people pay $400 for 14" tube color VGA monitor.

This is only useful as a port replicator. I agree, the video on this is poor.

What if my notebook is only galactic, and not universal?

HP sells their quickdocks on the Bay for about $50 shipped and it does full VGA, but no DVI. About 1/2 of the HP/Compaq models have an expansion port that will work with the quickdock.

Doing the math, I don't think USB or firewire have the bandwitdh for video, sound, and normal usb devices such as keyboard/mouse. Drop an external hard drive (common for most laptops) into the mix and this type of expansion dock is inherently flawed. I think the built in expansion ports are the only way to dock a laptop successfully. I've been using a Latitute D620 with an expansion port for 4 years with no problems and full desktop functionality using (DVI, 5.1 sound, power, batter charging, etc).
