Deals are getting better - you can get an XP machine for the same as a linux box. The low end ones vary depending on little add-ons, gotta keep looking. Better than many other netbooks at a lower price point.

I still think the dual core atoms will be coming on in the next month or so. But they'll cost more.

the dual core atoms will NOT be used in netbooks as signaled by Intel due to the fact of their energy required which means cooling required. putting something that hot into a netbook with no room for cooling will just end in tears. But here's to hopes they are working on that.

Unless you have teeny tiny fingers you will find a keyboard this size frustrating. One case where size really does matter. A 10" or larger, especially Asus will be more satisfying.

I'm glad Ben was able to find one of these, once upon a time, for $289 before the 20% off code. But it seems every time this is posted, the cheapest ones available now are $329 before the price reduction!

There were $249 ones with Linux when this was originally posted. It was $199 with the code. I was ready to pull the trigger until I didn't have enough money in my account for it.

These should be around $250 before a rebate anyway.

Snagged one of these last night. Got a 1gb ram, 16gb ssd version for $262 after tax, shipped. The site says it was a "previously ordered new" unit meaning it is basically never booted. I'll try it out and compare to my Acer Aspire One- keep the one I like better and eBay the other. Only bad part is estimated ship date of 1/13! Argh.

I bought a lot of stuff from DELL outlet before. It is always good, never have problem and fast. You will be surprised that your items arrive much earlier than estimated ship date. It did say to me before it would take time to assemble my order (says one week). Next things I know it shipped next days and arrive a few days later. BTW: I checked my order it said in production and estimate shipped date 1/6 and be delivered 1/9-13. If history is correct. I would receive it much earlier. I won't be surprised if it is shipped by tomorrow since all they need is packing and shipped. I ordered refurnished laptop before it shipped next day (even they said in production for a week).
I need this by 1/9/09 since I would be travel oversea on 1/10/09 for a few week. Hopefully I got it early before I leave.

For what it's worth: There are 97 of them available now, all 97 are $379 before coupon (presumably $303 after 20% off).

Like I said before. I just check my order status. I ordered yesterday. It is now shipped. It is much faster than what they told you. I hope they have 15% off $250 refurbished Inspiron again soon. I miss it, it expired 12/27. I had one before it is a great note book. Need to buy another one for my son. I could not believe he still has my 5 years old laptop with only 256MB memory. It was so slow now (the old one). That is about to be in the dump.
