This is an excellent HD camcorder. We're still figuring out the work flow because the software isn't that intuitive, but it's very good even with indoor lighting at night. It is compatible with Sony Vegas.

Apparently, you can film your house burning down in HD with this thing.

I ordered this camcorder a couple of weeks ago when it was $492.00. It came in in about a week which I thought was good for 5 to 7 day shipping. I ordered a 16GB SDHC card from another vendor and it didn't come in until the end of last week. I've only been able to play with it a little bit this weekend but so far I love it. I haven't tried it yet but from what I hear the biggest problem is editing the movies once you get them on your PC.

This thing is great. I have it and have recorded about fifty hours of video. The only issue is playing the video on anything but this camcorder. It's not Blu-ray so you can't just copy it to a dvd and pop it into your PS3. If anyone is curious or needs more info about this camcorder, email me. It's a great camcorder. The only thing that sucks is the optical stabilizer (OIS) is not that great.

whenever you pause and hit record again does it always separate out to individual files?

I haven't experimented with playing off a DVD yet, but I hope to have some nice Christmas footage to test with.

Hey #10, are you sure? This is not the BluRay format.
#9, yes it creates a new file each time because it doesn't really pause the recording but rather ends it each time you hit pause.

Good 1080P camcorder. Comes with good software too.
It comes with ImageMixer software. It can author and burn an AVCHD on DVDR with menu for you.
Buy a Blu-Ray player that supports AVCHD to play the AVCHD DVDs. I think most of Sony Blu-Ray players support AVCHD playback.
Hope this helps.

$500 is still expensive. $30 off $530 is less than 6% off.
NOT a great deal =)
