Wow, I thought I was overpaying for the one I bought the other day until I realize that this is refurbish...

Refurbish player... From people's experience, are refurbished items better than the factory new (since they pay extra careful attention to fix it), or do they tend to break down more than usual?

I try to stay away from any refurbished items with moving parts.

Lucky me I grab 2 S350 for $150 each last time when Ben post it here.

#4 - depends on who does the refurbishing. i've heard good things about apple and onkyo refurbs, bad things about ecost and buy.com refurbs. seems like if it's refurbished by the manufacturer you might have better luck getting a good piece, but YMMV.

#4, refurb means used. They don't fix nothing and they don't repair nothing. At the most, they just check if it basically works. For example. if an almost worn out VCR is a refurb, it doesn't mean the video heads get replaced because they have a lot of wear and will fail soon. If the VCR works when they test it, out out for sale it goes.

It's not like rebuilt auto parts where they actually replace the items that tend to fail.

Micro Center has a new BDP-350 for $199 today. Far better deal.

Instead of this refurb just get yourself a brand new $250 Blu-Ray PS3 from sonystyle.com (with the credit card deal of course).

I agree a Refurbished DVD or Blu-ray player is high risk. I have serious doubts about the units. Some items on refurbished sale are Ok from what I know.

For example this year there were lots of GPS Refurbished units. Many were new product but had to have serious firmware upgrades. That's a lot different from used and resold inventory.

I don't trust many companies anymore.

NEVER EVER buy any consumer item made by Sony with a motor in it. It's even worse when it's a refurb. The mechanics of the device tend to die short weeks after the warranty expires.

had one of these that broke recently Sad, right after the warranty, like #16 said. i have had issues similar to this on other sony products. stick with the other brands for a bluray player.

Agree with #16 and #17. Sony products always break just days after the one-year warranty expires.
