Ryobi is a great brand, but I wonder which of the 7 items was returned for refurb? All of them?

It might be one but since they come as a set they labeled the whole thing as refurbished.

I wouldn't say that Ryobi is a great brand. They are probably good for around the house, but not for work. My company bought three sets of these and the drills were within three months. I've had my Milwaukie drill for three years and still no problems. Of course with the price you pay you could get three Ryobi's for the price of one Milwaukie.

Ryobi's introduced a new line of tools that use a LiIon battery that's also usable in this older line. As the battery is the we akest link, this a real step ahead/behind.

These are perfect for the homeowner.

LiIon batteries will soon be the only batteries available for cordless tools---they will not be available in fractional/decimal voltages---therefore, this drillmotor will be supported.

Personally my Mikata (costco) has worked for years.

These are fine homeowner-grade tools. I've done some serious work with them and they're more than adequate, but they don't have the refined balance you'd get in a Bosch or the nobody-left-but-the-carrotroaches-and-this-drill durability of a Makita.

The NiCd batteries are nearly indestructible, and fairly affordable, though their power-to-weight is obviously far behind what you get with Lithium-Ion and your shoulder will tell you this, after a few hours.

Ryobi did a wonderful thing when they released a Lithium-Ion battery that works with all these tools. The entire OnePlus line can now run from either battery, so pick one Lithium starter kit and you'll have the choice of the cheap battery or the light battery for any given tool.

One caveat: The old chargers can't charge the new Lithium batteries, and they don't currently make a 12-volt-input charger that does the Lithiums. So if you're using these on the jobsite, I hope you have a generator, an inverter, or some NiCd batteries to fall back on when you kill the Lithiums for the day.

Bought Ryobi 1/2 inch 18v drill, battery and 1 hr. charger for $30 at Home Depot earlier this year. No problems yet. Three friends bought the same set and all of us are happy with them.

These are very good tools for general house work. Not contractor grade, but good enough... I got in on a black friday deal.
