Really not worth it. HDMI is only passthrough, and I bet it runs extremely hot, as do most bottom end receivers. Better off saving for the Onkyo TX-SR606 or Sonys STR-DG820 as good entry level receivers.

Get something with pre-outs also so you can add an amp in the future.

The 606 is $349 w/free shipping at the egg.

Yep, get the 606 instead. This doesn't have Dolby TrueHD.

Still it's a better deal than you'd probably get at a big box b&M store. Personally I wouldn't spend $300+ on a receiver I'd rather get a better TV

I installed a 506 a week ago to replace a dead mid-tier receiver from another manufacturer for a relative. The Onkyo 506 rocks if you're not willing to spend twice as much money for something that is mostly the same for a lot of installations. I don't mind the extra digital co-ax and optical cables because the receiver only passes-through the HDMI without audio - still beats the heck out of several channels of shielded component color cables + audio cables. I found the interface (both the front of the receiver and the remote control) and the manual very friendly to setup & use. Order your cables online, they are 5x as much in brick & mortar stores.

Can anyone recommend a good set of (relatively cheap) speakers to go with this? Thanks!

#11, take a gander at the Polk Monitor speakers. They're excellent for their price, and were on sale on newegg.

I have been looking at the same, and I was looking at the R-150's at crutchfield.com

Check out Flunce for cheap, yet decent speakers. You can get a 5.1 set for $500.

Excellent setup at this price range for my projector. I only need to run 1 long HDMI cable to my ceiling mounted projector. I don't mind connecting digital audio cable from my dvd player.
