Good idea, but not much in my area. The only good one has a lunch only stipulation.

so they're figuring out that people don't want to buy these overall, as they're basically well designed scams? What a shocker. Basically these are a maximum of 50% discount from the original price but with gratuity and everything else there puts this at a much smaller discount.

Let's try an example. $4 coupon, (-)$10 credit from coupon, 18% gratuity, $20 purchase (minimum)

So, you pay $14 (assuming you can magically buy $exactly 20$ of food which is highly unlikely), you pay 18% of $20= $3.60, so you're back at putting in $17.60 into the original 20 bucks. So what's the real discount? 12 percent.

Lets try a second one. $20 coupon (-)$50 credit from coupon, 18% gratuity, $100 purchase (minimum).

You pay: $70, once again, assuming a magic $100 of food purchased, you pay $18% of the $100 in food = $18, so $88 for $100 in food = 12 percent.

If you can cut gratuity, it's a deal, but otherwise? Eh.

I think your math is a little off. The coupon code is for 90% off. So in your first example the $10 coupon would be purchased for $1, not $4. In addition if you purchased a $20 meal without the coupon you would still be paying gratuity. So your price with the coupon is $14.60, and your price without the coupon is $23.60. So your actual savings is around 39%.

#2 it's no scam, they added a lot of new restaurants in my area. As to percent off, who cares? $25 off the bill after paying $1 for a coupon, so that's $24 in my pocket. BTW, around here there's no place other than fast food or Chinese take-out where entrees for 2 cost less than $25, let alone coffee and dessert.

number 2 is a tool.. this is an amazing deal if u have restaurants in your area that are on the site.

the $25 gift certificates are the best value which require $35 minimum purchase. you buy the GC for $2.5 and u spend lets say $37.50. so basically u have spent $40 (GC and meal WITHOUT tax or tip which will come close to $50). Subract $25 and that gives u $25. u save about 50%.

if u want it a different way. 2 meals will cost around $20-$25 from a decent place. with this coupon, u can buy a couple drinks and or appetizers. after the discount you come out to the same price as just buying 2 meals so if u look at it that way its like getting drinks/appetizers for free.

It's a good deal, however, majority of the restaurants on that site are small businesses and the owners are usually present on site. At least, at many of the ones that I had gone to. When presenting these coupons, you can expect a bit of extra protein placed inside your dish. They don't really take too kindly to these coupons.

Yeah there are a bunch of family owned restaurants around my area... pretty nice owners, so i hope i don't have to worry about protein laced meals..

i know the coupon says to present coupon prior to ordering. does anyone know how strict places are with that? i just want to try a pizza place down the street from me and place an order over the phone but ibuki's post scares me. ...extra protein... ugh...

Number 6 is also a tool... these restaurants CHOOSE to be on the website and offer this coupon. restaurant.com isn't picking and choosing. So its like any other coupon these restaurants may have out. Obviously these places are small business. chains don't need the business that badly to resort to this site.

#6 is pure BS; I've never handed in the coupon until the wait/staff asks if there's "anything else". And yes, the restaurants choose this because they get an up-front loan from the advertiser, who recoups their profit from the discount amounts. Remember Priceline/Webhouse? Same idea, except for the bidding.

Limited # of good restaurants for me. + the 2 or 3 good ones sell out their inventory fast each month. Gotta get on 'em early.
