Do not buy. I bought it (from meritline) and it doesn't well. "You get what you pay for" applies perfectly in this case. Only about 4 ports sort of work for me with quirks. Bought a D-Link 7 port hub after it, but haven't tested it yet.

To manufactures making new USB hubs: please use this formula for the AC adapters: about (0.5)*(n+1) Volts where n is the number of ports, and throughly test your product for functionality and reliability (instead of putting out half-baked products and losing your customer base in the process.) Thanks.

This shit doesn't support USB 2.0 speed. It's only "compatible" with USB 2.0 port. I bought but returned it. (I had to pay the shipping cost for return.)

Umm #1, you do realize that your math makes no sense? (0.5) *(n+1) Volts = 4 volts for a 7 port hub or 2.5V for a 4 port hub, neither is correct.

Try this:

n = # of ports
h = amps the hub itself consumes even with nothing plugged into it yet, though this is a negligible value since it's going to be only a few dozen mA if that.

(0.5A) * n + h = AMPS needed if all ports consumed the max USB spec allowed. That's a 3.5A adapter for this product but reasonably speaking nobody is going to have 7 500mA devices all consuming max power simultaneously. On the other hand, a conservative engineer would spec a PSU with peak power capability that's approaching twice the actual average load. A PSU with those specs would cost more than $7 + S/H by itself.

It's not usually the current rating of a hub that causes a problem, it's the overall poor quality of that PSU's output, supplying dirty power, or the hub itself is just so cheaply made and poorly designed that the data is corrupted or they didn't bother to sprinkle a few tantalum decoupling capacitors near the power pins of every USB port. You probably can't even get 7 tantalum capacitors for $7 delivered either (maybe on ebay if you're lucky) so it's true, you get what you pay for. That D-Link and a Belkin 7 port we often see deals on seem to be two of the best 7 port hubs out there at the moment.

The damn LEDs are annoying as hell at night too, and the damn thing works only about half the time. Stay away from this POS.

Time to reiterate an old post on Meritline.

Ordered a semi-functional USB-Firewire card.

Returned at my expense, replacement didn't work either.

Returned second one at their expense.

Meritline refused refund because it was too long since original order.

Then they cut off receipt of further e-mail.

Losers. Lost me for a year now to keep about $15.

I emailed Meritline.com about the one I got that did not work half the time and it did not support USB 2.0 at all. They refunded me the cost (I had freeshipping) without even asking me to send back the item. Stay away from this product from meritline, ebay, or anywhere else. It's not usb 2.0 and craps out more than half the time.

Thank you all for the info. I am very much in need of a new USB hub or two, having lost my very nice Belkin hub (and an external hard drive) to a power spike last week when one of my UPS units died. I'm trying to find a good, reliable hub that won't kill my wallet to get. Was looking to try this one, already wary, but now informed enough to let it pass.
