Filtrete isn't that good in general. Better than nothing though.

It comes up on Woot.com sometimes. Got mine there for $40--with a $20 MFR rebate to boot!

Where did you get that impression? That would be groundless speculation and utter nonsense. I assure you that these units work precisely as designed and intended. They are very quiet and will effectively remove pollen and dust from the air in a room up to 160 sq ft. I own two of them. As a pollen and dust mite allergy sufferer I assure you that these units offer relief at a low entry cost and a relatively low cost to operate. I am unaware of a lower cost unit that is effective for pollen and dust removal.

They are basically a rectangular updraft design squirrel cage fan with a built in flow sensor that displays when the filter needs to be replaced. The fan has multiple speeds (low produces a nearly inaudible white noise and high will clear pollen from the room quickly when you come home).

The updraft design does not produce a cooling effect or noticeable draft as the Honeywell units do and these are much less costly to operate than a HEPA filter.

These units are not designed to kill or capture viruses, cigarette smoke, odors, or volatile organic compounds, but they are highly efficient and effective at removing pollen and dust from the air.

Yes, you could just put a 3M "Filtrete" filter on your whole house forced air HVAC system, and if your ventilation system is correctly designed, built, and maintained (is your ductwork clean?)... you would achieve similar results by running your whole house fan continuously... This unit is a less costly method of achieving those ideal results for a single room. They are perfect for a bedroom, and will permit you to sleep soundly through the allergy season.

Goodness knows what this message was intended to convey. You want goodness? Go to Sunday school. You want the dust and pollen removed from your bedroom or livingroom? Get one of these.

FYI, the filters are quite expensive on these. About $15-20 a piece. I've seen them for about $12-13 each if you're willing to buy a large pack of them at once.

Model number is FAP02-RS, you can use that to find the filters as well. This is great for a bedroom and is so quiet on the medium setting you won't even notice it unless it's right next to your bed. We had to lock our dogs in our spare bedroom for an hour and they decided to all pee on the carpet. Shampooing couldn't get the smell completely gone, but running this filter in there for a day did.

I live in a *very* dusty part of Arizona and my filter lasted about 4 months running almost constantly on the medium setting.

These sell for $100-$150 at many retailers (online and B&M). They have been on woot bacon a few times for around $40 and there is usually a $20 mail in rebate available (I did get my rebate check eventually).
