The only bad thing about ViewSonic is that they are built so damn well!!! I have a 19" that will not die! I don't want scrap it until I have issues. I may have to drop it or something. I got it back in 2002 for over $700!!!

Then there's this model which I own, which failed within 3-4 months, which I paid to ship off for warranty repair only to have it returned still broken.
Not sure where this myth about quality comes from, Viewsonics aren't built better than any other major brand (except some of the really low end stuff for example some Acers). That #1 has a 19" that still works doesn't mean much, most 19" from any brand still work although their backlighting is probably starting to dim by now.

They were best known for great professional level CRTs. Then they had LCDs costing multiple times what they do now. Cost cutting has it's drawbacks, it's amazing what size monitor we can get for under $300 these days but lower margins effect design, testing, service, everything. I wouldn't call them "bad" per se, more like typical and competitive with other low-midrange LCDs (when it's a TN panel like this is).
