Canon's are the best and Jr.com is not that bad themselves.

You don't get the case and 4gb card FREE at newegg, yYIf you add the camera to your cart you have the opportunity to add a special savings bundle that includes the camera, the 4gb card and the case to your cart for $118.99.
It's special savings, not FREE! For $18.99 more than the JR.com deal I'd rather just pick up my own card and case.

There is a coupon code for this camera on newegg, it's EMCABAKAG.
So, on either site the camera is $100 w/ free shipping. On newegg you can pay a bit more to get an SD card and camera case.

I just returned this camera yesterday. While it did take great pictures especially daytime outdoor pictures, the battery life was too short. A pair of brand new alkaline AA or freshly charged NiHM 2600mAh would afford only 36 shots with flash lights. After about 10 shots with flash, it took 20 or more seconds to light up the screen and then additional seconds to fire a shot. The charging time of course became longer with more shots. I wonder if SD1100 or SD790 would have the similar short battery life.
An 8GB SDHC could store 2270 pictures from this camera at the highest resolution.

#9, you just experienced the problem with Canon cameras that use only 2 AA batteries. Slow flash charge time, and short battery life. The SD series do not have the same problem, since they use custom batteries (not AA).
The only usable solution for this an similar dual "AA" battery Canon cameras, is to buy Sanyo Eneloop or equivelent batteries. These are NiMH batteries that come pre-charged and
are rated at 2000MAH.
What makes these batteries different from your 2600MAH batteries is that they maintain thier voltage level better over their full discharge cycle. Your 2600MAH batteries drop below 1.1 volts, even though they still have 90% of thier charge left, and the camera shuts down.
I have the older A570is camera, and I've taken well over 100 pitures ona set of batteries. Even with the eneloop batteries you might see the low battery light sometime, but the camera keeps working fine.
Still disappointed at the slow flash recharge time on the camera (8-12 seconds)

Oh, brother. What will it be, pistols or swords?
Back to the camera... I have the A570IS, one of the precursors to this camera, and can vouch that it eats alkaline cells. The solution, as mentioned, is to use NiMh cells, preferably the new ones such as Eneloop. I got the Sony AA cell versions, and they are rated at 2500 mAh.
Install the alternative firmware and have it show a real battery level gauge. It's amazing to watch the level drop after a big flash when using Alkalines, then it creeps back up after the flash capacitor is charged. Still, Kirkland AA alkalines are good for maybe 30 flash shots or 100 daylight shots. Just pack spares.

Also, you probably will get bad battery life if you use alkalines. Try switching to rechargable NiMH.
