This thing looks nice. Does it have an fm tuner? Can I replace the battery myself? Can I use something other than that crap itunes on this thing?

The iPod touch is fantastic. It comes with a built-in Nike+ receiver so you can connect it wirelessly to a Nike+ shoe sensor without having to plug in an external receiver. The screen is gorgeous. Videos play smoothly, the web browser if completely usable (unlike the one on the Nokia P800/810 tablets).
I don't see why anybody would want to use anything else than iTunes to manage their music library, anyway. It's fast, efficient and free (it manages my 50,000 tracks flawlessly). And don't give me that drag-and-drop baloney. If you manage your music manually with folders you need to have your head examined (and stop using Kazaa).

WARNING - these are generation 1 units not the current gen 2. No speaker and some other differences.

Oops - Thanks #5. Didn't realize these were the 1st generation models. These don't have the Nike+ receiver either, and no audio in. I didn't think the speaker would be that useful, but it's actually quite convenient to share videos with friends (in quiet environments only, as it's not very loud).

I'll continue to be patient and wait for a NEW 16GB iPod touch (2nd gen) to drop to around $200ish

The first generation Itouch can be hacked, so many prefer these over the 2nd gen Itouch. As of today, the 2nd gen ipod touch cannot be "jailbroken". I haven't personally done it yet, but there are guides on how to turn first gen Ipod Touches into VoIP phones, and other stuff like that.
Just thought it might be a consideration for "would-be" buyers.

2nd gen jailbrake should be soon. It's just been reported to be done tethered.

Apple refurbs are as good as new, if not better, because they're individually tested. They're always perfect cosmetically. The only difference is that they come in an ugly brown box instead of a fancy jewel box (for iPods) or cardboard/styrofoam box (for computers).
