So, sometime in the next 30 years Im gonna have to copy all the data from these disks and re-store it somewhere else? Sounds like a blast. I thought cd and dvd was safe for a lot longer. No?

Trust me... in 30 years you'll have 1 terabyte SD cards... Actually... forget that... you'll have 512 terabyte SD cards or whatever else they'll think off... that measly 4.7GB will be all on hard drives and you won't need DVD's... this is, after all, just temporary storage (despite the fact that temporary means '30 years').

Yeah, yeah, I know.. We'll be able to fit petabytes or even exabytes on drives by then. But Ill still have to copy the data from the disks. 'Sides.. I was teasing about the 30 years. I really did think they were viable long after 30 years.

Are these good media, or should I stick to my other brand?

#3, RiData is a good brand. I used a lot of them. But now I prefer Verbatim brand.

On the other hand, good brand or not, no bargain.

30 years? How many movies from 1979 do you regularly rewatch now? So 30 years from now you won't give a darn about your current collection of burned movies, other than a few that will reach classic status. Ferris Bueller's Day Off, on the other hand, is already a timeless classic and should be watched daily.

You will be luckly if your DVDRs last 30 years. TY and Verbatim claim their discs will last 100 years but I think that is a stretch.

#6, movies are irrelevant. I store all of my family photos and videos on DVDRs. I really hope the media is dependable because the content is obviously irreplaceable. I make duplicate backups on different brands and periodically do a quality scan on them to make sure they are ok.
