#1: why is this not a deal?

For $10 you get some nice RAM with heatsinks that can run fast timings. If you'd prefer the faster clock speed, these can probably run DDR2 1066 speed fine, with the timings at 5-15. Not a bad deal for $10.

I got an older PC that runs DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) - this will work, just running slower yes?

#8, I read that NewEgg will help if the rebate is rejected. Your credit card company may also help you if have problems with the rebate.

It should work great IF the system has a bios adjustment for 2.1V or higher, or IF the bios allows POSTing at higher default timings so he can manually set more relaxed timings needed at lower voltage, or IF he happens to get lucky and running at the slower bus speed, it'll do the spec'd timings stabily without need for higher than default voltage or timings.

If he knows these things, great. If not, the safest choice would be something spec'd for 1.8V instead of 2.1V (buying different memory instead).

If the rebate goes through, it's a nice deal. Even if it doesn't I heard the same thing as #10. Newegg's got your back!

You mean it's possible, not guaranteed. Some boards are more capable than others, which is why they don't just spec it at 1.8V in the first place.

no, actually, this RAM is spec'ed for DDR2 800 at 1.8v. Take a look at the corsair website. So, yes, it is guaranteed.

Interesting, but then why does Newegg give a different spec on it for the same DDR2-800 speed? In this case, if true, Newegg needs to edit that. You wrote DDR2 800 at 1.8V, but do you also mean at the spec'd timings? If so, again Newegg needs to edit their page. If not, then it goes back to what I wrote about needing be able to set that timing, or have it default to that and abandon tighter listed timings.

If you want to run at 4-12 timings, you need to set it for that speed, and up the voltage, it defaults to the 5-18 speed. According to user comments, this RAM will run at DDR2 800 4-12 with 1.9v.

So, when you put this RAM into a computer, before changing any settings, it defaults to DDR2 800 speed, with 5-18 timings, and will easily run on 1.8v, as stated on Corsair's website.

Therefore, this RAM is guaranteed to work at 1.8v, even if the motherboard does not allow you to change any memory settings.

In fact, if the motherboard only supports 667MHz, you could probably up the timings back to 4-12 without a problem. Even at 800MHz speed, multiple user comments report that this RAM runs fine with 1.9v and 4-12 timings.

Also, just to note, the price on this item has now dropped to $5 AR, w/ free shipping.

But at higher timings, it's not such a good deal anymore, 1.8V @ CAS5 for $15-20 AR /4GB has been common recently. Granted, if the system can only take 1GB/slot that changes things.

#19: but, at 667mhz speed, he can probably run the 44412 timings with 1.8v. Not bad for $5.

As you point out, getting twice as much RAM will cost 3x to 4x the amount. Plus, chances are he's running a 32bit OS, so he will only be increasing the usable RAM total amount by 50%. Is that really worth tripling or quadrupling the price?

If his system only supports 667 speed RAM, it's probably fairly old anyway, and probably won't be used for performance intensive tasks years down the road, when you'd actually care if you can fit more RAM in.
