sillymackids, you are correct... FDIC insurance was temporarily increased to $250k until the end of 2009.

3.5% at dollarsavingdirect (it was 4% up till about 3 days ago.) It has full FDIC insurance and is a subsidiary of emigrantdirect.

Forgot to mention there is a $1000 minimum deposit (which as far as savings account minimum balances go, is pretty low.)

It's only till 2009 for the increased FDIC? Well, not like it really mattered to me...

These rates nowadays are ridiculous. One would expect such return from interest checking not savings.

Hopefully they will. Due to the immense amount of money being "printed" by our government these days, super-inflation should kick in pretty soon and 250K probably won't even be that much money...

250K in FDIC Insurance is not guaranteed. Banks have to pay additional premiums to offer this level of coverage and I'm not certain it was mandatory after the first 90 days (or something like that... I forget the exact wording of the memo I received). It would be prudent to ask if you really have a deposit of that size.
