Has anybody used generic HDMI cables like this before? Recommend / not recommend?

Got this deal when it was up in December for $1 more, works just fine, can't tell the difference upstairs between this one and the $30 belkin one I have downstairs...

I love this debate. Its a known fact that there is a difference in picture quality between HDMI cables. They also run different versions 1.1, 1.2, 1.3b. Some pass through audio, some dont etc.
I bought a stupid Rocketfish HDMI cable for $70 from Best Buy (i know i got jacked) a year ago and found a generic one online for $10 few months back. I did the Pespsi challenge with it and saw a big difference in sharpness while playing XBOX 360 and PS3 on my 56" Samsung DLP. Movies not as much of a difference to me...but overall there is a difference.

Were you smoking the same stuff when you did the comparison that you were smoking when you were talked into a 70 dollar cable?

#3 I thought these cables moving electrons (voltage and such). I didn't know it can move numbers 1's and 0's.

#5 must have a very good eyes to see the different. There is different, theoretically. The cables move electrons (voltage), not 1's and 0's. The transmitter and receiver end interprets these voltage as 1's (5 volts normally) and 0's (0 volt). There is no guaranteed that that the voltage transmitted and received are perfect square waves (either 0 or 5 volts and nothing else). If the receiving ends fails to interpret properly (say the voltage is around 2.5), then there will be the different in quality. This is the stuff I learned from college many years ago.

Whether the different is big or small depends on the length of the cable, quality of the cable (shielded, ferrite cores, size or gauge, etc.) and the surrounding interferences.

My 2 cents on: Digital whether on (1) or off (0) argument.

It makes no difference with a short 6' cable. This is a good deal.

For longer cables it might make a difference if you are dealing with 1080p or higher resolutions.

Geeze, how many times does it need written that for normal distances, any cable that is not defective is 100% identical in transmitted data? When they design and test these things they don't just rely on looking at a tv screen, they are tested for data transmission/comparison.

Yeah, the generics for a reasonable difference will perform no differently. I'm using several brands of generics and can't tell any difference.

Not so happy with CCTV though; I ordered this same deal from them back in December to find out they were on backorder after about a 2 week delay. I got the order cancelled, but if you're in a rush for cables, don't put your money here.
