You pay what you get for PS3 does not touch xbox live I have both systems and the games games to play on xbox live are better. Just use the microphone to talk thats why we have voices.

the chat pad is for sending text messages you idiots. of course you can chat with the microphone, but NOBODY I know likes getting voice messages because if you are in a private chat, game chat, or party chat, you have to leave that chat in order to hear a stupid voice message. Text messages can be read on xbox.com or quickly by hitting the guide button.

I have both systems, both systems have pros and cons. I used XBL for over a year, but once my sub expired (and I went through the massive hassle of canceling XBLive) I switched to PSN. You can use bluetooth headsets or USB headsets with PS3, so its not like PSN has no voice capability. PSN seems to have fewer screaming 12 year olds, from my experience. XBL isn't worth the money, imo.
