Is this the version where the alien women pop out and eats the British dude?

Wow...you mean to tell me they caught a Alien Woman from space and then had her narrate this documentary on Planet Earth!? I think I saw this story on the front of National Enquirer!

Avoid the Alien Woman. Go with narration by the Brit git.

I agree with #5. I recorded this off the air when it was first shown on Discovery channel (with the Brit announcer) and I have the HD version with the alien lady. I believe the British version uses the Brit, the US version Sickhorny Weaver. Not sure if you can buy the British version in the US. And yes, the video is absolutely spectacular. Well worth $33. (Sickhorny Weaver is not worth a quarter or a bad cigar frankly.)

DVD version is more expensive than the Blu-ray!

the bbc version is 1080p and the discovery is 720p.

I believe when I recorded it off the air (Discovery Channel) that it was at 1080i (1080p broadcasts are very rare). Most people will not be able to tell the difference between 1080i and 720p.

ur HD box says 1080i, but the quality isnt near that. compare ur HD recorded show vs. BBC blu ray and ull see a huge difference.

Pass on this one - The BBC version (longer and narrated by David Attenborough) is only £24.80 (shipped) from Amazon UK. Approx $35 US plus whatever foreign currency conversion your credit card company charges - typically around 3%.

I agree with #11, purchased the other narration one (BBC orig) from Amazon UK and it shipped extremely quickly. Only a few bucks more, well worth it.

I bought the UK version just to get the British dude, but, at the risk of puckering some corn holes, I wish I got the Alien woman. The Brit may have naturalist cred, but Ripley is a professional actor who knows how to narrate. Mostly, I think the audio mix of the narration is better on the Alien version, which makes a big difference.

Professional acting doesn't have anything to do with knowing how to narrate. The Brit has narrated dozens of other shows, so one would think he has it down by now. I did enjoy the brit personally, but I think the narration is a distant second to the visual content.

The British fellow is much better in my opinion.

The thing about Attenborough is that he lives for this stuff, and it comes through. Anyone remember "Life on Earth"? Sigourney is just reading a script, with all respect to her talent.
