Most people are playing their ds's or ipods.

I use my PSP as a video player. I picked it up years ago (1st gen) when portable DVD players were god-awful expensive. Now I find that I'm a little entrenched with movies on it so I don't feel the need to do something different. Plus the slims are a bit lighter too, handy when weight matters.
SO, if you don't already own a PSP and don't plan on playing games on it (and they do have some interesting choices), then there isn't much in the way of compelling reasons to buy. The web browsing setup is kind of hokey & a pain in the ass! The picture is nice, but still small compared to even a 7" dvd player. And unless you plan on doing some hacking to use homebrew, the options for movies & games are slowly dwindling.
Sony really dropped the ball on this device. Even with the 'New Mini-Disk' like propitiatory optical format they had a chance to make this killer! Wi-fi, movies, music, and games?? The power of a PS2 in your hands??? They should of been kicking ass & taking names, instead NOOOOO let's annoy developers and make demands on movie studios to the point that everybody just bails. Good plan Sony, I applaud you on this clever management & marketing decision!

I still play my PSP, since I am not a little sheep and have to use crappy ipods and overrated ds's :p
It is also easier to run homebrew on the 2000!
Wireless networking built in - how nice is that!
Little kids will grow up one day and realise the ipod was too overpriced and overhyped to be worth anything and at the same time they will see those "lovely" graphics on the ds and know they had been a fool :p

#6, you get a bean pie kick to the face.
I use my PSP frequently to play random games while waiting for my carpool. Most conversion programs are tailored to capturing .avi and dvds to the PSP format. So I think the true problem with the movie issue is, why bother? You can copy your dvds to your PSP and don't have to spend extra on UMD movies. And the ipod touch is no where comparable in price to the PSP. Way too overpriced.
