Philips SHN2500 Noise Cancelling EarphonesNewEgg.com has the Philips SHN2500 Noise Cancelling Earphones for $10 + $0 shipping = $10 shipped. Yes these are "active" noise cancellation headphones, not simply earplugs that block outside noise (although it appears they do that as well).

Have used a set of these for a while now, they work very well. Not perfect but I can mow the lawn and listen to MP3's without having to blare them.

    These are $5.99 on Amazon.

... and received a 3 out of 5 stars there (amazon). Looks like you're not getting a $50 pair of earbuds for $6, but still a fairly good deal.

Why does this pair of headphones have some kind of dongle?
    #6   baltimoron - Posted 10:30 am PST 02/5/09 (319 Posts)
True #3 but the $5.99 shipping kills the deal on Amazon. It does not qualify for Super Saver Shipping even if you add $19.01 to your order because they are coming from Capital Electronics not Amazon.

#5 the reason that it has a dongle is because it takes a AAA battery for the noise canceling technology. The dongle holds the battery and the on/off switch for the noise canceling.

#5, dongle is the electronic unit that cancels the background noise (thus Noise Canceling). It needs battery to operate. I believe the earpiece or the dongle unit has a tiny microphone to obtain the background noise and the dongle unit will create an 'inverted' waves to cancel it.

It have holes in the back which is not good for activities that have wind. Like biking or running.

These are decent on the plane. It works fine for the price.
#3, Amazon.com has it but it's from a third party seller (plus additional $5.99 for shipping). This is a good price.

Not a good set, but a good set for the price. If you're one of those people who always breaks or loses their headsets, these are the perfect compromise between quality and disposableness.

i'll find out soon enough. i think they are because of the 3.5mm adapter?

These sound fine, but you need to know what you are using them for. They aren't great for running because the sound canceling 'module' , which kind of bulky, is halfway down the wires and not in a great spot to put it in your pocket or anywhere, and without a clip, you have to hold it or something.

Out of stock. I was hoping to get them in time to take a trip with a noisy nephew and my folks. Its worth every penny to not have to hear all that bickering. lol
