The problem with the PCI-E slots is that they tend to be placed between the PCI-E 16x ports on the motherboard, meaning that you'll cut off air circulation to your video card if you install this card in that slot. Some wisely place an addition PCI-E 1x slot at or near the bottom.

Is there any improvement between 1x pci-e slot and the standard pci slot?

Would you actually need the increased bus speed for a sound card?

I'm not buying any more creative sound cards until they release proper (surround) vista drivers for their Live! series.
    or
The new X-Fi series sells at the same price point: $30

I'm not buying any more creative sound cards until they solve the compatability problem with NVIDIA® GeForce® video cards in SLI mode . Farcry 2 is particularly bad.

I'm with you guys. Any recommendations for a Vista compatible 7.1 sound card?
