We got this as a Christmas present. Awesome camera. Very nice quality and easy to use. I have smallish hands and its easy for me to reach all the buttons comfortably.

I've been waiting for a deal on this one. Might...just...bite.....

This is certainly a great deal on a highly rated camera. However, Amazon had it (themselves, not a partner) for $529 last month. This is certainly cheaper, but not by too much. These will probably drop more in a few months when the 2009 models become available.

Great camera. I have it and have shot over 200 hours of HD video. Only thing that sucks is the OIS is crappy.

You can definitely find this thing for FAR more money. I think around Christmas time, it was nearly $800 or more at Best Buy. This is a good price right now. If you want to wait it out, of course it's going to go down as the new models show up but it's a great camera to have right now. The weather will be breaking soon so get out there and just shoot stuff and by summer you will be ready to get bitched out by Christian Bale.

These have been $510-515 for weeks now. Guess this is a couple bucks off, but not a barn-buster sale or anything. They could be had around black Friday for $400... wake me up when we get back to that.

Be forewarned: You will need at least a dual core to process the video, or even watch it on your pc. Don't even think about encoding if you don't have a quad. I bought this and couldn't even play the files on my pc. It's AVCHD format, 13-14mb per second. Had up upgrade my damn computer...

I have the HF10, which is nearly identical to this model. The only difference is the HF10 has 16GB of built in memory, while the HF100 has none. If aesthetics are important to you, the HF10 is all black while the HF100 is predominantly silver. I picked up the HF10 for $599 last week. Amazing camera! The picture quality blew me away. While I do like the idea of built in memory, and the black is better looking than the silver IMO, I'd be hard pressed to suggest the HF10 over the HF100 given the $100 difference. A 16GB class 6 flash card can be had for about $25. Either way, you can't lose. The HF10 and HF100 are definitely on the short list of top camcorders of 2008.

One more thing. The charge of the included battery is dismal at best. Don't expect more than an hour. Consider the almost necessary cost of an extra battery when weighing your options.

I'm gonna get me one of these. I guess I'm going to have to upgrade my computer at the same time.

HF200 will be out on April 15th I want to wait for it. $749 on amazon.com

Price on the HF100 should fall like a rock soon HF200 will be out in April. $500 is a great price on HF100. I would be tempted to buy HF100 now in the 400s.

    If you can find one.

Exactly #12. The way these camcorders are discounted, I'd expect them to become increasingly difficult to find, especially after April 15th.

what do you mean? there is a crazy demand out there for HF200? I thought this recession took care of all that...no?

    what do you mean?

I mean, if the successor product is due in April, you can bet that production for the predecessor has already ceased, or will be within days. Whatever is left on the market is what there is to be had. Once they're gone, they're gone.

So like I said. "If you can find one", you might be able to get a good deal.
