Um... no it's not free. Getting the product free requires a previously purchased version of Pinnacle Studio or a similar competitor's program. So for 90% of us, the price is $30. Not a bad deal, but still not free.

I wondered if this version crashes as much as the last few versions I owned. Checked the Amazon.com reviews - same old piece os bug ridden software.

I like this software. It does crash from time to time, but as #4 said, it saves your progress. What do you want for free??

I've been using version 11 for AVCHD output. So whats the difference?

Does this run OK on Vista64? Adobe Elements6/Premiere4 doesn't so I'm stuck with them!

#8 are you saying the Adobe products won't run or that they aren't native 64bit?

#9, Studio 10.5 and later run fine on Vista 64. This version is much better than the previous versions 10 and 11. Remember to get the update patch 12.1 from Pinnacle.

I knew you read a lot, #13, from what I heard here
. The encoding is much faster and it's less buggy in Vista x64.

This is the easiest video software to use. I have made over 150 movies using this software. It can have some bugs at times, but that is usually due to compaitibility issues with the computer. I recommend this for the novice and intermediate. I use this 4 or more times a week.

If you purchase Pinnacle Studio Plus 12 and Nero 9 (also FAR and FS), they each qualify as competitive upgrades for the other. So both products can be had for FREE w/ 4 rebates. They seem to have this deal almost every year about this time. I've never had problems getting paid.

I used version 9 of this, and it's OK. But I just picked up Sony Vegas and it is much better. Better interface and so far less buggy.
