Of course not. A sensor of the same size in 8-10MP will generally result in better pictures with less noise.

I read an article somewhere on the internet that explains why a 8mp would be better than 10mp (given that both cameras are in the same class), it has something to do with the lens being the same size, so the image of the 10mp would actually be a bit worse than a 8mp.
I have a 6mp camera and out of the 3 years I've had it, I think I've taken a 6mp pic only once or twice. So I don't think I really need a 14mp camera.
