The 680 is a fine unit by any standards.
What exactly entails "new" GPS technology?

Yeh sure #4. Like what, 25 seconds to lock on versus 30? There are tons of other considerations (usability and number of POI for example) to consider. I can't vouch for the refurb part of this deal but the Nuvi line are excellent GPS units.

Having the old GPS technology I will say that when you put the new tech next to them and use them simultaneously you will note that the newer one does recalculate and zoom much faster. The satellite lock is also slightly faster. Still, if your old unit works not many would spring for the new tech based on performance. PS. my C550 is older than the 680 and I'm still quite pleased with it.
