#1 If you are going to do ESX or ESXi it doesnt much care about VT on the chip, unless you REALLY need to do 64bit apps but normally 32bit OS with <4G ram VMs are fine for 'home' testing.

#3, you're right....BUT it's worth to have the extra functionality for a few extra bucks.

To bad the Phenom II 720 AM3 CPU is just as good as this, costs $20 less, even better because you can OC it easily to 3.5Ghz with no voltage change. (triple core though, not like it really matters)

mhottie,
You linked to the Q9400, not the Q9450 like you mentioned in your first post(6MB of cache vs. 12MB). Your link worked for me, but unfortunately it's for pick-up orders only and I don't have a Microcenter near me in NC. If you pick up at the store you'll have to pay tax, so that's over $190, however, that's still a good price considering Newegg still sells the Q9400 for $230 right now. Not trying to argue with you, just clarifying what's been discussed here.

Aside from that, your getting a crippled CPU. It's the ONLY Quad core with disabled VT support.

VT is almost useless for 99% of people ... it is NOT a crippled quad by any consideration. In the games I play, my 3.5ghz Q8200 get pretty much the same fps as my 4.3ghz E8500.
