I have acer aspire 4710g for less than a year and the battery died already. I don't think acer is a long lasting brand. But the price is cheap enough.

Acer like everyone else contracts out the batteries, often using same majors like Panasonic/Sanyo or Sony. #1's battery would probably have died in a year no matter which laptop OEM it happened to ship out from.
Acer should not be seen as one of the more durable brands, but compared to other laptops at the same low-end price they are not so different in durability and often more featured per $.
