I've yet to achieve anything higher than wireless G speeds even when using N with this device.

What numbers are you getting #1? Nobody with decent encryption on is getting 54MB/s with 11g, 20 to 25MB/s is typical, maybe slightly higher if client and access point (device) are right next to each other.
If talking about minimum speed or latency, even in ideal conditions, the statement that it's "faster than wired ethernet" is obviously incorrect even if limiting that to 100Mb, letalone Gb.
