Get the Asus 1000he for $20 more. 9 hours of battery life. Slightly faster processor. Better keyboard.

For the moment, I think the best price on the Asus 1000HA (comparable specs to the Acer) is $340 at zipzoomfly. It has dipped to $300 and even a little lower with various rebates/deals.
This one is a no-brainer for me...take the Asus. But if you want a little more oomph, I'd suggest moving up to the 1000HE @ $375 (Amazon), which includes a better keyboard, battery, processor (barely), plus bluetooth and wireless-N.

My point is, this thing just came out and it's already $350 in retail store like J&R, the price will drop another ~$20 very soon in many e-tailers.
And I know Asus 1000HA is about the same spec and cheaper (I almost jump in when Zipzoomfly had it for $280), but this is lighter (and better looking for some people?). I believe some people are willing to pay a little extra for the weight difference.

After a Dell 700m that spoiled me rotten, and now the Asus 1000HA, I can't imagine a notebook/netbook that gets less than 5 hours of battery-life. Really...anything that says "as much as 2.4 hours" makes me laugh. Of course it's what you want to do with it that counts, but I'd suggest a 6-cell at the minimum.

The Asus keyboard may be MECHANICALLY better (I don't know), but the LAYOUT of keys on the Asus is AWFUL. The tiny right-shift key makes the Asus VERY difficult to touch-type on, and leads to constant mistakes. (my experience, after owning one for months).
The Acer keyboard layout is great, with a much more functional shift keys (and dedicated pageup/pagedown buttons, which I miss on the Asus more than I thought I would).
Now, if one of the manufacturers would just get all the "right" stuff in the same box...

#13 Regarding keyboards (if I follow you), I've remapped the right shift on the Asus 1000HA, and its "new" location works fine for me. I agree with you about the page up/down keys!
I've taken a peek at the 1000HE, and the right shift (wooops, almost left off the "f") key is in the optimal place on that model.
